Annotation

This paper uses the concept of legitimate language (cfr. Bourdieu) in relation to identification and utility, to investigate the complex Kharkiv (Eastern Ukrainian) language situation. Whilst the Ukrainian language there can constitute a salient marker of national identification, Russian appears to be considered suitable in most fields.
