This paper broadly addresses South African's language policy in schools, and the decreasing number of pupils choosing isiZulu as a first additional language subject as compared to Afrikaans, in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The Durban High School (DHS) court case (2008) in particular is analysed with regard to KZN second-language teaching.
