Annotation
This paper discusses Rwanda’s new language-in-education policy aimed at installing English as the only medium of instruction, in order to promote reconciliation and peace and enhance Rwanda’s participation in the global economic development. But in Rwanda, language is construed as an indicator of group affiliations and identity and the country moreover has the potential to develop a multilingual educational policy that uses Kinyarwanda, its national language.
