Annotation

K. argues that, however important propositions are for philosophy, logic and linguistics, no coherent theory of the structure of propositions has been constructed. The main stumbling block has been the question of how to bring constatives and performatives under the same conception of proposition. K. tries to remove this obstacle and to present a first outline for a general theory. Various aspects of speech act theory (such as the classification of speech acts) are revised from this point of view.
