This special issue reviews the notion of framing based on various recent developments in the domains of sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and linguistic anthropology, and in particular the present interest in the notions of stance, style, metalinguistics and language ideology. In doing so, the contributions mark the importance of framing not only in managing micro-level interactional practices but also in reproducing cultural ideologies and social relations.
