This analysis applies the concepts of frames and performance roles to represented speech in personal narratives of Fulfulde speakers. It is found that the speakers distribute responsibility, blame and praise across multiple self-depictions so that the one most accessible to the audience is portrayed as a superior representation of cultural ideals.
