This paper explores the set of strategies deployed by Peninsular Spanish listeners to signal active collaboration with the speaker via their interpretation, disambiguation, and convergent use of anaphors. The need to establish affiliation appears to override neo-Gricean and cognitive prognoses on anaphor distribution.
