Focusing on a particular sketch type in a very popular radio comedy sketch show in Ireland, in which a certain type of code-mixing and the politics of language in Ireland are crucial to the comic appeal of the sketch, its is argued that the pragmatics of its codeswitching and mixing, can only be fully understood if it is situated within the wider context of the current status of Irish. The conveyed attitudes concerning Irish language use and language ownership appear to be very ambivalent.
