Annotation

This paper focuses on the organization of touch, and, especially, on ways in which reference to a body part is achieved when the body part is only tactilely approachable to participants. Via a detailed analysis of segments from a pelvic examination, performed by a Japanese independent midwife, this study explains practices that these participants use to handle the limitation on the accessibility of what they refer to in their interaction.
