This paper deals with the intermediate position of Portuguese in Europe (Portugal being simultaneously a host and sending country), providing Portuguese with a bipolar sociolinguistic status at the European scale, both as a ‘dominant’ and ‘non-dominant’ language, and examines insights and understandings of its multilingual dynamics.
