This study discusses how address forms in the Anglophone Caribbean are part of a complex politeness system, resulting from the socio-historical conditions of the colonial plantation system, the transfer and continuities of socio-pragmatic rules from both West African and European cultural and linguistic traditions, and from new creolized or innovative practices.
