This article considers the patterns of usage of generalized you within a corpus of This study reconsiders three possibly concurrent interactional functions of generalized you within a corpus of interviews with women who had undergone mastectomies, mostly following breast cancer diagnosis, and argues that in these data, the use of generalized you permits objectivity with potential interactional advantages for both the interview participants.
