This paper delineates a theoretical framework for exploring newswriting processes as a societal, organizational and individual activity and applies it to a case study of how a Swiss public broadcasting company could promote public understanding in Switzerland whilst operating between the poles of a political mandate and competitive market forces. The presented case elucidates how an experienced professional journalist identified a critical situation of collaborative text-picture production and solved an apparently unwieldy conflict with his emergent solution.
