As part of a broader analysis into Chinese modesty substantiation in interpersonal interaction, this paper discusses the findings of a conversation-analytic study on Chinese self-praising behavior in everyday social encounters, based on data, collected in Beijing and Hebei (China), during the period 2001–2010.
