Drawing on a large sample of bilingual Croatian-English speech, this study explores the overall incidence of hesitation and monitoring phenomena (HMP) in speech containing code-switching. Although not identical with discourse markers, HMP execute a compatible function, namely that of integrating or easing the incorporation of ‘other language’ text.
