Annotation

Using a discourse analysis of Pittsburgh speech (“Pittsburghese”), based on data from print newspapers, a website, an online discussion board, and a Wikipedia entry, it is argued that both people interested in historical linguistics and in the interaction with the public on the topic of non-standard varieties can advantage from reflecting on the role of technology in defining whose voices are heard when.
