Investigating the current role and relevance of ethnic distinctions in Mexican Jewish identities, this study focuses on labeling practices, especially terms applied to Jews of Syrian ancestry. Ultra-Orthodox movements have come to surpass other indexical values in distinguishing the social types they denote.
