This study explores how the unique South-African post-apartheid context affected interpersonal appraisal choices in three written texts (1996) of the transformational leader Clem Sunter. It is suggested that it allowed Sunter to maximize this Disquiet/Tenacity configuration in order to encourage change in his ideal reader, making Sunter a markedly different kind of transformational leader.
