This conversation analytic study concentrates on the provision of psychotherapy in subsequent psychiatric interviews to hospitalized inpatients in a Spanish hospital. To fulfill their institutional mandate, psychiatrists need to employ interactional devices to design their speech as therapeutic and to constitute the psychiatric interview as a self-explicating phenomenon.
