Annotation

Drawing on fieldwork in the Belgian asylum agencies between 2004 and 2007, this study shows how asylum officials' styles of reporting asylum seekers' statements (namely “narrative” or “elicitative”) influence these statements' evaluations. The “elicitative-mediated style” appears to wipe out evaluation-relevant elements of the applicant's oral persecution narrative.
