Annotation

This study discusses how in 19th century East Upper Silesia, in the wake of industrialization, followed by accelerated urbanization, the arrival of large numbers of German- and Germanic-speaking immigrants in this Slavophone area led to language contact and the emergence of an Upper Silesian Slavic-Germanic pidgin that became creolized in the late 19th century. It further sketches its history until 1989 and beyond.
