This paper concentrates on regional Italian from a language-contact perspective, and additionaly from the viewpoint of the reciprocal relationship between dimensions of linguistic variation. The handled topics range from the language shift process from Italo-Romance dialects toward Italian to the diminshing regional markedness of modern Italian.
