Annotation

This study discusses the vitality of the Arbëresh Albanian dialect of Southern Italy, surviving there since the 15th century, focusing on four Albanian enclaves that constitute a geographical continuum. The arrival of “new Albanians” and their very negative ethnolinguistic reputation throughout Italy has engendered a shift among Arbëresh speakers in favor of the Italian language.
