This article explores the accordance between popular beliefs about Ukrainian language status and corpus adequacy for roles, as reflected in focus group discussions on Ukrainian language policy. Efforts at uplifting the status of Ukrainian are hampered by the prevalent perception of its corpus inappropriate nature for those roles it has not fulfilled hitherto.
