Annotation

This study discusses how the young discipline of Queer Linguistics may be successfully used in sociolinguistics as a contribution to critical heteronormativity studies. Queer Linguistics is not to be equated with a “gay and lesbian” perspective on language. It rather conveys ideas from Queer Theory to linguistic research, drawing on the inclusion of work by poststructuralist scholars such as Foucault, Butler and Derrida in order to procure a critical analysis of heteronormativity's discursive construction.
