This study discusses how laughter, started by medical providers during prenatal genetic counseling (PGC) sessions in a Hong Kong hospital, carries out at least two PGC-particular functions: helping medical providers to “laugh off” and break patients' resistance, and assisting them in addressing patients' direct questions.
