This paper offers the first systematic exploration of the interactional tool of insertion repair. By far the most usual modification thus made is specifying, followed by intensifying. Other—much less usual—modifications are describing, adjusting, and adding. The paper also addressess the relevance of these findings for conversation analytic work on repair, referring, and the link between grammar and action and different action orders.
