This study employs the excited utterance exception to hearsay from the US Federal Rules of Evidence (2006), to generate a recontextualization theory. It is demonstrated that legal discourse simplifies and restricts both texts and contexts, and situates them causally in the repeated and concurrent processes of entextualization and recontextualization.
