Drawing on Dubois's (2007) definition of stance, this study explores the dynamic link between stance taking (in casy by English teachers to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)) and discursive positioning, debating the role of performance in these processes. The analysis adds to our comprehension of the research interview as a dynamically co-constructed speech genre.
