Annotation

Drawing on the libel trial David Irving vs. Penguin Books Ltd and Deborah Lipstadt (2000), this study explores direct and indirect impoliteness, asserting that pragmatic im/politeness strategies add to the lawyer's defensive attack style in cross-examination, one which uses both polite and impolite incivility.
