Annotation

This study explores various aspects of business language in the Spanish of late 18th century Colonial Louisiana, as displayed in letters between government officials, and in particular the degree to which the power variable in professional interactions influenced the form of directive speech acts, as well as the link between indirectness and politeness in this communicative genre.
