Drawing on data from experiences of in-service teachers in university-based Spanish classes at UMass-Amherst, this paper adds to the comprehension of the role played by emotions in second language learning, of ideology in the reciprocal development of second language teachers and learners, and of the interrelationship of second language learning in schools and communities.
