Annotation

This study discusses the various inconsistencies of and the motivations underlying current language planning for Nepalese primary schools. The introduction of English as language of instruction and subject from the early grades, for instance, contradicts the MOE's most recent multilingual education (MLE) policy, that wants non-Nepali speaking children to be taught in their first languages up to Grade 3 whilst simultaneously learning Nepali and English as subjects.
