This study attempts to outline the linguistic aspects of the expansion of Romani into formal, media-linked fields by examining sample text fragments from bilingual journals. The discursive strategies used in this expansion process are embedded in the Romani socio-linguistic situation, and linked to consequences for language planning initiatives.
