43 mixed-skilled English language learners in a Japanese university, were proposed two reflective awareness-raising strategies that tried to help enable them to make well-grounded classroom language choices when confronted with the claims of a prescriptive English-only language learning setting. The English-only policy appears to constitute an unrealistic goal for the majority of learners and one which may entail a series of negative implications.
