Annotation
This study demonstrates that secondary school teachers in Italy, Austria, and Great Britain appear to share corresponding views on three explored topics: the role played by prior language knowledge in language acquisition; the perceived utility of language knowledge in present-day society; and the teaching practices to be employed with multilingual students. Many teachers are unaware of the cognitive advantages of multilingualism and of the utility of home language maintenance for both students and their families.
