Reviewing four studies from the intercultural education and communication domain on ‘the acculturation of the Chinese student abroad’, this paper advocates the renewal of the epistemological and methodological positioning in the research on Otherness and intercultural discourses, given the lack of a consistent 'liquid', or constructivist and open-ended approach to the ‘Other’.
