Annotation

Although only English and French have been preserved in Vanuatu's secondary school system as the two official languages of instruction, code-switching is common, with especially frequent use of Bislama, which turns out to constitute a complementary learning resource. Yet, as school language policy rejects code-switching, these helpful practices often occur secretly, and learning may thus be actually impeded.
