Using a critical sociolinguistic ethnography approach, this study discusses how the discontinuities between the two examined language programs at Villababel High in Madrid, targeting immigrant students with poor Spanish or good English command, regarding language ideologies and language learning organization, put forward a controversial view of social inclusion, viz. inclusion from above and from below, which hold important consequences for immigrant origin students in mainstream education.
