Annotation

This study shows that despite of some differences between Caucasian American and Japanese young women as to types of and motives for social networking site use, generally the main reason for the latter consists of communication with ingroup peers that are offline acquaintances. As to the former, whereas young American women prefer expressing peer group connection through their Facebook photographs, Japanese young women commonly do so through (more private) Mixi diaries.
