This paper discusses the English language teaching (ELT) policies and steps taken under the United States Army Military Government in Korea (USAMGIK) from 1945 to 1948, in order to elucidate their effects on present-day Korean ELT. Despite several educational measures to increase ELT, Korean ELT preserved key features, previously established under Japanese colonial rule.
