Annotation

This longitudinal study on reported mother-child language use of Puerto Rican mothers and their preschool children over a 4-year period, reveals a child language use pattern following that of their mothers: those exposed to English before preschool entry, reported using more English, and English usage overall increased over the 4 years. Boys were clearly far more often addressed in English than girls. A bidimensional acculturation model is employed for interpreting the results.
