Annotation
Drawing on Chen's (2001) self-politeness framework, this study explores an 18th cenrury American courtroom trial in which two medical professionals at the same time vouch as expert witnesses and defy their hostile interrogators. The main discourse strategies (namely redressive and off-record) they had recourse to, increased and repaired their expert self-face.
