K. argues that, like the 'true' Dutch passive, the 'pseudo-passive' (e.g. 'Er wordt gefloten') explicitly asserts that the agent is non-focussed or backgrounded. Further, K. investigates the semantic, pragmatic and stylistic consequences of this backgrounding.
