Exploring Colin Grant's current criticism of “interaction paradigm” and Habermas's universal pragmatics, it is argued that moderate Peircean pragmatism, aptly read, can offer a philosophical platform able of handling matters of contingency, uncertainty, and autonomy in communication theory without yielding to nominalistic or traditional individualism and incommensurabilism.
