Annotation

This study assessess how rural youth take health decisions and employ communication strategies to oppose influence attempts in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) offers . Their resistance strategies appear similar to former findings concerning urban youth -refuse, explain, avoid, and leave (the REAL typology) -, whereas unique features involve the significance of personal narratives, the expression of a non-user identity, and stating being “responsible” to self and others.
