Annotation
Drawing on a grounded theory approach, this paper generates a conceptual framework that describes how communication about cancer may be especially meaningful to patients because it is conceived as something they can control during a very stressful and turbulent time. However, efforts to manage communication are contested by constraints imposed by others, such as untoward and unpredictable reactions to disclosure.
