Annotation

When the former Bulgarian national holiday of 3 March was reinstated in 1990, opinion was divided as to whether 3 March was a good choice. This paper examines the discussion that followed in Bulgarian media. The argumentation for the other candidates for national holiday status is shown to mostly concern the degree of active Bulgarian participation in the historical events that the days commemorate, and to a somewhat lesser degree also to concern how the days are celebrated.
