Annotation

This paper proposes a pilot study of political videos that are integrated within news articles in French, Finnish and British online newspapers and news sites. They will be first examined as media products whose sources and status distinguish them as independent news stories, excerpts, or unedited documents of events. Second, their genre or generic features will be analyzed to determine what kind of discursive organization and journalistic stance they represent. They may remediate traditional media genres establishing an intersubjective relationship with readers and viewers that seek to inform. Such videos can function as a news story that parallel written articles. Their function can be to represent an original, live source quotation reported in the written article. Moreover, they can be a piece of evidence in support of a claim made in the article. The political dialogues represented in videos are seen as moments of policiticization. They represent struggles between individuals in the public sphere who are searching for ways to legitimate their views on public matters.
