Annotation

Using insights from relevance theory, film studies, and multimodality, this article provides a study of the construal and functions of the implicatures in the polysemiotic context of two romantic comedies: Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). Implicatures especially appear as organic elements of the two studied films given their multifaceted involvement in the creation of humour and intimacy between the protagonists and their contribution to the plot per se.
